Platformoberoende?Article DI 27/10 sida 4

Hi,
Can someone explain the importance of this article. Am getting an expensive website built now, what shall I demand?
What exactly does platformoberoende mean?

"Plattformsoberoende" means the site looks the same on Mac, PC, Linux, Unix etc.

As you might know there's diffrences in how Windows, Mac OS etc handle font sizes so a good web designer makes sure the site looks good on any machine and for diffrent web browsers.

I´d like to ask if I should avoid flash and certain navigation. I do not want the site to look outdated but I am looking at this site to be used on a global scale. Thanks for any help!

Using Flash movies is not platform independent. Not all platforms/systems have the possibility to read and display Flash movies and even if the platform has a corresponding Flash plugin there nothing that implies that the user has installed that plugin.

Stick to html if you want all of your possible users to be able to view your site, in my opinion sites does not look particulary "fresh" or "up-to-date" just because they have some more or less ugly Flash movies on them, in fact, I hate Flash movies more than the plague :e
