A. Visual Studio 6.0 developers are encouraged to use Microsoft SQL Server™ 7.0 Developer edition rather than MSDE 1.0 to develop and test MSDE 1.0 solutions. SQL Server Developer 7.0 edition is available to Visual Studio 6.0 developers that receive MSDE 1.0 for Visual Studio 6.0, and is a full copy of the SQL Server product that is licensed for the sole use of developing and testing MSDE 1.0 solutions (see the end user license agreement for more details). SQL Server 7.0 Developer edition includes SQL Server management tools that are useful during database application development. MSDE 1.0 is for use in deploying desktop and shared database solutions.
