fulltext sök och kolon

Hur hanterar mySqls fulltext tecknet kolon ":" ?

tex om jag gör en sökning i databasen på "2004:7" så får jag mycket riktigt träff på 2004:7 men om jag söker på 2004:7 så får jag träffar på förekomster av 2004:, t ex 2004:16, 2004:88.

Vad händer med kolon när det inte omsluts med tum-tecken (")?`
