Thoughts about life

I’m an atheist. I don’t believe in any god. I don’t have problems with people who do, though. If they want to believe that there’s a nice fellow somewhere watching down at earth it’s their choice. One thing that annoys me is when religious people use the bible or the Koran as an argument in discussions. Our friend in Afghanistan says that he has the right to kill americans because it says so in the Koran. The israelis say that they have the right to a strip of land because it says so in their holy book. Christians all over the world say that abortion is wrong, “just read the bible”, they say.

Personally I don’t think that there is anything wrong with abortions. How many of us remember what we thought when we were unborn? Not many. I don’t think that I would have noticed if my mother had made an abortion when she was pregnant. Sure, my life would have been taken away, but since I didn’t know that I existed I don’t see the problem with that.

I think that Helen made the right decision in the book when she kept the baby. You should always follow your own will in these kind of questions. After all, it’s your life. It’s hard to say what I would have done in the same situation. When I read the book I thought it was stupid of her to “waste” her life by having a baby at such a young age. But what do I know about being pregnant? She had already lived with the baby for a while so it would probably have been very hard to just kill it.

It feels like I’ve used the same arguments in an other essay but I’ll do it again. Lots of people who are against abortions eat animals. There isn’t a very big biological difference between a couple of weeks old baby and a pig. Why would it be more wrong to kill the baby than to kill the animal? Sure, from a religions point of view it’s wrong to kill another human being but as I said earlier, I think that people should think for themselves and not just point at an old book and say “look here, it says that it is wrong”.

I won’t even mention those who claim that abortion is used instead of contraceptives. Accidents can happen.

To summarize my opinions – I think that abortion is OK as long as the mother wants to do it and if the conditions for the abortion are safe. The book “Dear nobody” was pretty good but I couldn’t feel sorry for Helen and Chris as they didn’t do anything to protect themselves.

Ordföljden känns inte helt naturlig. Inte fel direkt, men verkar liksom tänkt på svenska och översatt under skrivining. Går det att hitta motsvarande meningar i boken och jämföra?
