[]Jag har nu skrivit en analys av boken About a boy på engelska. Vill att ni dissar den så mycket som möjligt Vill inte ha några grammatiska fel, eller stavfel eller dylikt som kan sänka mitt betyg. Tack på förhand

I read the book “About a boy” written by the famous writer Nick Hornby. Nick Hornby was born 1957 in London. He lives and works in Highbury, north London. He has written many famous books like, Fever Pitch, High Fidelity and About a boy. All these three books have become movies. And the latest one is About a boy who shows in the Swedish cinemas right now and it is a huge success all over the world.

The book is about a boy, but also about a man. The main characters in the story are Marcus and Will. Marcus is a 12 year old boy who lives with his mother, Fiona, in London. They moved to London from Cambridge some weeks ago. Marcus isn’t like other kids, he is weird, wear ugly clothes and glasses, and he listens to the music that his mother tells him to listen to, Bob Marley and Joni Mitchell. And he is a vegetarian because his mother is it. Oh, and did I forgot to tell you that it’s his mother who cuts his hair? Marcus hasn’t got any friends and his bullied in school.

Will are the opposite of what Marcus is. First of all he is 36 years old. He doesn’t work and actually never had a job because he gets enough money from royalty-money from a Christmas song his father wrote. Will is not a family-guy because he doesn’t want to get married or have children. He wants to live his own life and doesn’t want to think of other people’s problems or be responsible for them. Will cares allot of his appearance, he buys the latest and trendiest magazines, just to get an opinion what kind of clothes to wear and what music to listen to. Will thinks he is very cool and takes a questionnaire in a magazine where you get points. If you have many points you are cool, Will gets 66 points, 66 points means that you are cool as sub-zero.
Will is very happy with his life and wouldn’t change it for the world.

Another character in the book is Fiona, Marcus mother. She is a 38-years-old single mother who works as a music therapist. She isn’t a little bit strange. She lives like people did for 20 years ago under the hippie era. She wears hippie-clothes and listens to old music. She doesn’t want to accept the fashion or the music from the 90’s. She is very depressed and has lost hope for life. Because she is unlucky about herself she tries to commit suicide, but she fail.

Ellie is another character in the book worth to be named. She is 15 year old and is a typical teenage rebellion. She cuts her own hair, wears black lipstick and wears the same T-shirt everyday. She is famous for being in trouble and she isn’t afraid for anybody. She is a big Nirvana and Kurt Cobain fan and it is his face on the T-shirt she wears. When Marcus meets Ellie for the first time she makes fun of him and tells that the guy on the T-shirt is a famous football player in Manchester United. Ellie’s best friend is named Zoe.
The first thing you notice when you read the book is the strange structure of it. First you read about Marcus from his eyes. And next chapter, you read about Will from his eye. And it changes like this every chapter. Often you read the same incident first from Marcus eyes and then from Wills eyes.

At the beginning of the books you read to different worlds. After 8 chapters they meet each other. Many writers who would write a book like this would start chapter one where they meet each other, but not Nick Hornby he gives the reader a good description first. Both points of view from the characters are important for the books. Will is confused by Marcus’s lack of irony and how grown up child hi is. Marcus develops more relaxed style learning from Will. Will also learns a lot from Marcus.

The language in the book is pretty easy. Not many difficult words. Many times Nick Hornby writes out what his characters say and then it is easy and short sentences.

The role of fashion and music are very important for the book. Will ones hundreds of CDs and Marcus doesn’t even one a CD-player. Will is very interested in fashion and spends a lot of money on it. Marcus doesn’t care about it and if he would his mum wouldn’t buy the things he wanted. Nirvana is another big thing in the book. Marcus start to listen to Nirvana after he has spoken to Ellie and it is Ellies fault that Marcus and she ends up in the Police station when she broke a window when the lead singer in Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, commit a suicide.

The story in the book is mainly about Marcus and Will, the bullied child and the cool man. They learn to know each other after that Will joins a group for single parents, SPAT (Single Parents Alone Together). Will don’t have a child but made one up, Ned, just so hi can make a move on a cute single mum. Marcus finds out that Ned is made up when he stocks Will for some days.

Will makes a move on a mum named Suzie who has a child. Suzie is a good friend of Fiona and takes care of Marcus one day when they all except Fiona went to the park with the other single parents. Under this time Fiona tries to commit suicide.
Marcus mother’s suicide attempt makes deep scares in him and he thinks about it everyday. Will try to take care of Marcus even if he doesn’t want to.

I really like this book. I didn’t get disappointed when I read the book because I loved the other Nick Hornby books I read. I think the way he writes the book in makes it more fun to read. As it’s written from the point of Marcus and Will, you know their thoughts, and I could really imagine what they feel and think and what they’re going to do in the next chapter – though it’s a little strange I could agree with both of them, because they’re really very different, on the inside and outside.

and I could really imagine what they feel and think and what they’re going to do in the next chapter. - Antingen presens eller imperfekt, men inte båda sådär.

Ex. and I could really imagine what they felt and thought and what they’re going to do in the next chapter

She is 15 year old and is a typical teenage rebellion.->She is a typical 15 year old teenage rebellion.

She is famous for being in trouble and she isn’t afraid of anybody.->She is famous for getting into trouble and not afraid of anyone.

Will is the opposite of what Marcus is. -> Will is the opposite of Marcus.

He wants to live his own life and doesn’t want to think of other people’s problems or be responsible for them. -> He wants to live his own life not worrying about other people’s problems.
